North West Heat

North West businesses – Stagetex and Charbrew – are set to represent the region at the Lloyds TSB Enterprise Awards in March, after winning the regional heat in Manchester yesterday.

Stagetex, a Liverpool-based audio-visual and staging company providing lighting, sound, staging and visuals for events, was the winner in the Best Start-Up category, which recognises a business in its early stages.

Meanwhile, Charbrew, the Manchester-based manufacturer of speciality tea available from Sainsbury’s, Booths and Ocado, took home the prize for Best Enterprise. The Best Enterprise award goes to the business judged to show real potential for growth over the next five years.

Adam Soliman, founder and CEO of Charbrew, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to take home the Best Enterprise Award. It shows to me that I’m doing the right things with the company, and by growing the brand everything is going in the right direction.

“The award has given me a lot more motivation to keep going and do what I’m doing, it shows that the judges perceive that in five years’ time I will still be in the market place and I have the potential to have a good competitive foothold in the tea market.”

Peter Van Neste, director of Stagetex and winner of the Best Start-Up award, said: “It is really great for our company to have won this award. To have been recognised for the customer service that we give is really important to us, as it has always been our selling point and is what makes us different to everyone else in our competitive market.

“This award is just fantastic for Stagetex. It is hopefully going to give us the opportunities to work in new markets, to grow our business in the corporate sector and to help us to take on a new project manager. Also, the mentoring and legal advice that we get is going to be really helpful for the business – whenever I have had the chance to talk to more experienced business people, the insight I’ve gained is fantastic, so I’m really looking forward to making the most of that opportunity.”

Also recognised in the North West heat with a Highly Commended were Green Street Media and a7 records, for the skills and entrepreneurship the owners demonstrated.

As the winner of the Best Start-Up, Stagetex has secured a cash prize of £1,000, whilst the Best Enterprise winner, Charbrew will be taking home £5,000. Both winners will also benefit from two years’ mentoring from senior Lloyds Banking Group representatives and free legal advice from an independent specialist law firm.
